Very Interesting Read by an LA Times author David Lazarus.

A cellphone bill roams to the stratosphere

Most of us know that data is murder when it comes to charging Americans internationally. It’s pretty funny that most other countries do not spend nearly as much for the same services. For example Taiwan has cell service + data + text for about 20 bucks a month.

TMobile in this example is shady, they know how the system works and the passing of responsibility to other carriers is an easy way to get a customer frustrated. The other cell company in question will do the same and the process will be endless.

I recently went to Mexico and as soon as I crossed the border I got a text message from AT&T saying that I was now roaming and data charges apply. Problem with this? It doesn’t include a FREAKING price. Even an estimation would be nice “Dear Customer, international roaming enabled; estimated cost 10$/MB”. I am not sure if the lady in the article got such a message about data being on roaming, but companies need to be at least appear like they want to help the consumer make good decisions.
