802.11r Approved – IEEE

Progress? Yes, the wireless N standard basically cannot get it right. The need for speed is here, some companies do see this and create their own hardware based on the lose N standard. Highlights of the 802.11r standard above (what we really care about):

  • Switching from 1 wireless network to another will happen in 50ms. Fast enough to have no loss during a phone conversation
  • Authentication speed increases
  • Based off of Fast BSS Transition (see the wiki link)
