WAR – 2nd Impressions

Posted in Games, Media, Software, Tech on September 11th, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

If I could describe WAR in 1 word it would be “deep”. I don’t feel like i need to grind to the highest level right away. I am actually taking my time to Level, Rank up, and gain Influence. We all know what levels are, but what are the other two.

Each character has levels and ranks. Your ranks are tied to your RVR xp, the more Ranks the better armor you can use and the better your character will be. Not only is it smart to RVR from level 1 on, but it buffs your character and it’s fun! From RVR you get Renown points as well, you will get points you can throw into buffing your weapon skill (gets through armor) or strength, int, etc.

Getting influence in an area is another cool aspect. I mentioned about the Public Quests getting you loot and xp, well i left out how influence is another reward. Complete a few public quests to get influence, once maxed (you have a bar) you can get armor based off your influence that is far superior to  items your level.

More to come….

Cable -(lvl 8, R9) <– this is how people like to see you’re actual level :)

WAR – First Impressions

Posted in MMO, Warhammer Online on September 7th, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment
Game Bugs / Rant
  1. Game graphics are solid for 2 years ago. Today’s standards it is on the low end. I think this is great as ex-wow players will be able to pickup WAR without a hardware refresh.
  2. Some graphics errors that need to be corrected. For example, when you are at the character select screen the Magus disc makes the guy hover so you can’t see what hair, eye, and other facial features you are giving him.
  3. Realm / Entrance Queues. HORRIBLE, 20 minute waits just to get into the beta right now. This will need to change. It reminds me of the old EQ days when there wasn’t enough server capacity.
  4. Depending on your server, there is a limit to how many Order and Destruction there can be. Meaning if you have a friend that wants to play the beta, make your characters at the same time, so someone doesn’t get locked out.
  5. Gameplay is a bit laggy, hit a hot key like 2, 3, 4 and you character will move maybe only 75% of the time. It’s clearly due to the server loads right now.
  6. Auto attack needs ALOT of work. I’ll stand there, for a good minute or so and my guy won’t swing yet the mob’s health goes down. This might just be lag too.
Things that are simply awesome?
  1. Amount of detail there is in the beginning area. Hopefully this isn’t another AOC where things stop being so cool at level 20.
  2. The way the quests are build. You don’t have to keep returning to the same quest giver you can advance and turn in quests. Also quests send you to one area, and upon completion you turn in the area you were sent.
  3. RVR from level 1 – AWESOME! You can already being collecting rewards from doing RVR that translates into good gear for your current level. Don’t worry about being gimped either, you are ranked up based on other player levels.
  4. More to come… back to WAR.

Sarah Palin – LOL

Posted in Breaking News on September 2nd, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

McCane’s VP Sarah Palin suggests that if “creation science” comes up in class it should be discussed.

In the article she mentioned to, “Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information.” Till now I have been fairly independent of the election on this blog. Even though this was said in 2006; this is the information age. This is like saying the world is flat, like that moron on The View stated. This really shouldn’t even be a so-called debate any longer, progress please?

When McCane announced that he was going to have her run as VP secretly I said “YES!, now Obama will be pres for sure”. We all know the reasons why he picked her, (Hillary voters perhaps?) but seriously there wasn’t a better woman to choose from? For someone to come down on Obama for lacking experience, it takes some courage to select this lady as a running mate.

Now information comes out about her daughter having a kid. While that might be off limits to Obama and others in the political world, I am loving it. Many right republicans are flipping out and they should be. Ohh no! her family is almost.. don’t say it.. living in sin?!

But Seriously, I am a registered independent. I vote for the best person for the job and I am going to take it a step further, there shouldn’t even be “parties”.

Here is another food for thought proposal; What if we capped all advertising and campaigining to a hard number, like 5 million. Less advertisements, less of a popularity contest, and more options to choose from…. just a thought.
