iPad vs iPod

Posted in Breaking News, Hardware, Tech on January 28th, 2010 by J – Be the first to comment

OK great the iPAD has been announced. Now lets compare it to its close relative the iPod touch and iPhone. Let me start by saying I’m a PC, but prior to the announcement of the iPad I was thinking this might be a nice device to have as a spare.

iPod Touch iPad iPhone
Storage: 8gb, 32gb, 64gb 16gb, 32gb, 64gb 16gb, 32gb
Video Playback: Yes Yes Yes
Camera: No No Yes
Screen Size: 3.5 9.7 3.5
Battery Life Avg: ~20 ~10 hours ~10 hours
Wifi: Yes Yes Yes
App Store: Yes Yes Yes
Bluetooth: Yes Yes Yes
Starting Price: 199 499 199 + Plan

What are the problems with the iPad in my opinion?

  1. iPad Doesn’t Support Flash. Not sure what is taking so long on this front.
  2. It doesn’t have a webcam? Think about it, what about Video Conferencing?
  3. OSX is half installed on this device. The iPad is meant to work like a peripheral where you need to dock it and sync it to a main station. They really want to make it a giant iPod Touch!
  4. No Support for installing your own non-apple approved applications. This means no Microsoft Office! they did say you can install iWork though. But there are many compatibility issues with that.
  5. This one is very important. NO MULTITASKING, seriously in 2010? OK so if I want to open a spreadhseet and run itunes I can’t? Or if I have a document open and a spreadsheet i can’t do that… hmm maybe there’s an app for that?

So it this the end all “netbook killer”? No, not by a long shot. It is a cool device and “revolutionary”? No, but it is pretty neat. More to come later.

Sarah Palin – LOL

Posted in Breaking News on September 2nd, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

McCane’s VP Sarah Palin suggests that if “creation science” comes up in class it should be discussed.

In the article she mentioned to, “Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information.” Till now I have been fairly independent of the election on this blog. Even though this was said in 2006; this is the information age. This is like saying the world is flat, like that moron on The View stated. This really shouldn’t even be a so-called debate any longer, progress please?

When McCane announced that he was going to have her run as VP secretly I said “YES!, now Obama will be pres for sure”. We all know the reasons why he picked her, (Hillary voters perhaps?) but seriously there wasn’t a better woman to choose from? For someone to come down on Obama for lacking experience, it takes some courage to select this lady as a running mate.

Now information comes out about her daughter having a kid. While that might be off limits to Obama and others in the political world, I am loving it. Many right republicans are flipping out and they should be. Ohh no! her family is almost.. don’t say it.. living in sin?!

But Seriously, I am a registered independent. I vote for the best person for the job and I am going to take it a step further, there shouldn’t even be “parties”.

Here is another food for thought proposal; What if we capped all advertising and campaigining to a hard number, like 5 million. Less advertisements, less of a popularity contest, and more options to choose from…. just a thought.

Olympic Gripe

I understand more than most about the crisis in China. Human rights are an extremely popular topic today along with Autism, but that’s besides the point. In London, France, and recently San Francisco protesters came out in full force to express their opinions on the matter. I want to play devils advocate for a second and say, are the Olympics really a place to express political views? Should we be focusing on the athletics?

American Airlines

Posted in Breaking News on April 9th, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

I’ve already started hearing conspiracy theories about why airline companies are canceling flights. The best yet, was that it is an indirect protest to high fuel costs. The idea behind this theory? Canceling flights is actually more cost effective than flying planes.

Obviously the above theory is ridiculous but it’s fun to think about it from a business perspective. I would much rather they ground ALL flights and create the perception that these companies are looking out for our (consumers) best interest; safety.

US Recession

CNN Article on the US recession

Above is a link to a decent article about the US recession. While it hasn’t been officially stated, many economists are calling for the government to declare it so we can move forward. Stocks have been declining, the US auto market has been hurting due to frankly, crappy cars, and more recent is the 80,000 jobs cut across our nation in the month of March. Up until now there haven’t been layoffs, now that there have been it’s time to call it what it is. A US Recession.

If anyone has stats on the average price of an American cars versus European and Japanese cars please comment.

Baseball and “Enhancement” Drugs – Roger Clemens

Posted in Breaking News on February 13th, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

Let me preface this by saying that I am no fan of baseball. I actually think it’s the worst sport on television. The recent investigation of baseball players into their drug use is pointless. Wasting tax payer money on these court cases is just idiotic. Who cares if a baseball, football, rugby, etc player did drugs 400 years ago. Why don’t they just say, “History is history, from this point on there will be no drugs in baseball”. Hey I think I just saved us billions, wait aren’t we fighting in some war? lol

Hillary Clinton vs Barack Obama What are the Differences?

Posted in Breaking News on February 1st, 2008 by J – Be the first to comment

Here is what I found so far about the serious differences between the two. It is very tough to find information on their actual views. I read articles on CNN, Washington Post, BBC, and other news sites for the info.

Hillary Clinton

Iraq
• Voted for military force, now changed view.
• Voted to withdraw troops in 2008

Energy
• Voted against mandate of a 40 mpg by 2017

Economics
• Very specific tax cuts in various sectors. She tends to make focused taxed cuts where she can.

HealthCare
• For Universal Health Coverage

Gay Marriage
• Doesn’t support it but has more support of the gay community

Barack Obama

Iraq
• Opposed military force from the start.
• Voted to withdraw troops in 2006

Energy
• Voted for mandate of a 40 mpg by 2017

Economics
• Tends to remind people that they need to relate to the avg American. Items written is lengthy tax code do not make sense.
• Tax increase on 97,500 year incomes

HealthCare
• Think people want to pay for healthcare but sometimes don’t have the means to. Would make it more affordable.

Gay Marriage
• Doesn’t support it and mostly feels that this question should be left out of politics.
